Duplicate Citation Detection

When importing from multiple sources (e.g., PubMed and Scopus), the same study may appear more than once. VADRR provides a tool to identify and merge duplicate citations.

Running Duplicate Detection

  1. In the project, go to Citations.
  2. Click Check for Duplicates.
  3. VADRR compares citations using title similarity, PMID, and DOI matching and presents a list of candidate duplicate pairs.

Reviewing Candidates

For each candidate pair, you see both citations side by side with their metadata. Review them and decide:

  • Merge — Combine the two into one citation. VADRR keeps one record and reassigns any screening decisions or extractions from the duplicate to the survivor.
  • Not a duplicate — Dismiss the pair; VADRR will not suggest it again.

After Merging

Once merged:

  • The duplicate citation is removed from the project.
  • Any screening decisions made on the duplicate are transferred to the surviving citation.
  • Any extractions linked to the duplicate are re-linked to the surviving citation.
warning

Merging is not reversible. Review both citations carefully before merging.
